Thrift Flipping for the First Time

Yes I am one of those people who says ‘I’ve been thrifting since before Macklemore more it cool’.

The sad part is that my family and I would hide the fact that we thrifted, we even had a code name for it ‘South Africa’ aka Salvation Army or really any thrift store.

One thing we never did was buy clothes from the thrift store that needed slight mending or that had potential to be nice but needed work. It wasn’t until I watched this YouTube video from Best Dressed where I discovered ‘thrift flipping’ and my mind has been blown ever since.

So in an effort to not spend all my money on clothes I decided to try thrift flipping for myself!

Thrift Flip #1

BEFORE

So I found this skirt at Value Village for $6.99 and I immediately knew it would be great as a two-piece

My process was really just winging it and cutting the skirt how long I actually wanted it then using the rest of the fabric to make a matching top! For the top I just had to make sure I sowed the right amount of fabric together so that the top was tight enough because it was very stretchy material. It took me about 2ish hours to finish making the outfit but it was completely worth it!

AFTER

I honestly was pretty shook at the transformation! I know it doesn’t seem like much but the fact that I ‘created’ this by myself feels so good! This definitely turned out like a club outfit but if i threw on like a oversized jean jacket it could be daytime wearable!!!

Thrift Flip #2

BEFORE

So I also got this skirt from Value Village for $5.99 and I bought it originally wanting to turn it into a two-piece but after trying it on I decided I liked the flow of the skirt too much so I just turned it into a dress.

Basically I took in the dress to be more form fitting and then used the extra fabric to make very mediocre but cute straps! I seriously love the skirt as a dress and I cant wait to wear it in the summer

AFTER

Overall I actually really fell in love with thrift flipping. Its definitely time consuming depending on what you want to do but the end result is completely worth it! If you’d like to see the full transformation from start to finish definitely check out my video where I showed step by step what I did!
